About A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology

A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology is extensive collection of examples designed expressly for music history courses. A-R's Online Music Anthology contains at least twice as many pieces as print anthologies, all newly engraved and available online by subscription. (A-R offers complimentary access to instructors, pending approval of their requests.) Instructors can adapt the contents of the Online Music Anthology for use in a variety of courses, like any print anthology, but as an online resource, it is more powerful.

Benefits

A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology contains music from antiquity through the romantic era, with extensive contents for the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque. In contrast to the 120 to 150 or so pieces found in print anthologies that cover these eras, A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology offers over 425 representative pieces – over twice as many as print anthologies, with over 3000 total pages. Many of the works are presented in their entirety rather than in excerpt, and all are newly edited and typeset specifically for this edition.

Consistent Presentation

All the music is newly engraved – no grainy scans of old editions are found here. The Online Music Anthology uses modern engraving practice, including conventional clefs and barring. The page size, print area, and music size are consistent, with all pieces set for an 8-1/2 x 11 inch page, and designed to be output at the best resolution available for any printer used.

Online Accessibility

Conceived for online use, A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology goes beyond print anthologies by making its entire contents immediately available to view or print. All music can be easily previewed onscreen, with subscribers having the ability to view and print the entire content of each piece. As a digital product, a subscription to the A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology is affordable, especially in light of the amount of music available and the ease of access – it offers twice the content at less cost than print anthologies.

Ease and Flexibility

The entire contents of the Online Music Anthology are easy to search, with the music fully indexed by composer, title, style period, genre, nationality, language, and other factors. With the A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology, instructors can build courselists for their own classes, and this allows them to customize the selections for each course. All users can search the entire contents of the Online Music Anthology to find the music you need for your courses and make those selections easily available to your students. Students have access to the worklists for their courses and can also view and print the entire contents of the Online Music Anthology.

Site License

As of January 2011, A-R Editions’ Online Music Anthology is available by site license, so that libraries and other learning centers can serve their communities with this new product.
